Transformational Writing

Transformational Writing The men Jerked to the floor, all social barriers destroyed by the capricious nature of death. Privates and Generals alike squirmed in the filth, their searching hands smothering soft pink flesh, fearing the deathly burrow of a bullet. Jack flopped, limp like a fish. His face buried itself into the dirt and broke the dry crust his chin tunnelling into the sticky layer below, gaping like an open wound. He heard the ration party strike the floor their contents spilling out into the mud.He heard a rasping moan escape Evans' lips, his shoulder thumping the fire step awkwardly. He heard the cries of men and the guffaw of a crow, mocking the senseless carnage. And then silence. The dominoes had fallen. Jack wrapped his hands around his head, nuzzling his face into the mud as a baby would a bosom seeking the protection of thick underground earthy walls and for a moment he forgot about the war, he forgot about Evans and Shaw and Weir and instead he was sat at home wit h Margaret, chair pulled up by Johns bed, drinking in his sons face running his hands through his wispy hair. The promise he had made Margaret echoed in his mind, her mature features thick with concern glazed over im, â€Å"l am going t' surivive this bloody war, I'm gonna go home and look after my wife and we're gonna grow old together and on sundays we'll visit Johns grave and†¦ † He remembered the misplaced Sandbags. Gingergly he raised his head, others were stirring around him.Weirs broken body lay sprawled in the filth, his arms splaying at odd angles, dirt swimming into his open mouth, infecting every pore. â€Å"Sir! † Jack hissed, â€Å"Its 0k, the boche missed. † No reply. â€Å"Sir! † No reply. Now on his feet, Jack edged his way towards Weir, commando style in he dirt, his eyes flashing nervously towards the missing sandbags. â€Å"Weir! † mud splattered his face, his elbows working with vigour.Blood pumped from the exit wound in the back of Weirs' head, saturating his neck and tunic. His soft cap lay forgotten in the dirt, blown off the balding head. Jack moaned. Cradling his captains' body in his arms he called for help, â€Å"Someone get me a medic, he must have fallen unconcious! † Evans', Fielding and Jones gazed at the pair with a sorrowful expression. â€Å"Its Just a scratch! † Jack cried in answer to the now congealing blood, â€Å"Just a scratch! † By bighame

Business ethics individual written report Essay

Business ethics individual written report - Essay Example Without revenues, the companies, especially Nestle Company, will be forced to close shop. Closing up equates to filing a bankruptcy proceeding in the courts of law. The company complies with all health ethics and other community ethics standards. Likewise, Nestle Company does not reduce its current zeal to propagate the importance of implementing the ethical standard with the company’s territorial boundaries. The company sells products that will aid in the enhancement of the current and future customers’ health. The company also accepts and adheres to the current and future customers’ rights to receive valid and relevant information that will lead to the increased safety of all parties concerned. The parties include all stakeholders of the Nestle Company. The stakeholders include the customers of Nestle Company. The stakeholders include the managers of Nestle Company. The stakeholders include the company’s investors. The stakeholders include the Nestle Com pany’s creditors. The stakeholders should also include the current and future customers. Without the customers, the Nestle Company may not be able to generate as much sales as when there was an abundance of current and future customers (Stevens, 2009). In one situation, the customers were disheartened by the unfavourable side effects of patronising the Nestle products. Consequently, the company must not prioritise increasing revenues alone, at the expense of the customers’ sufferings. Nestle Company complies with the ethical standards of the community. The company’s milk and other food products contribute significantly to healthy individuals. The main goal of the company is to produce product that meet the current and future customers’ desire to become healthy (Stevens, 2009). By taking the Nestle products, the current and future customers will have better health conditions. With the Nestle products being distributed to the public, more people are able to buy the hard to find Nestle food products. Consequently, the Nestle Company’s 2008 financial reports indicate that the company was able to generate an estimated three percent growth rate. Further, the favourable growth rate occurred when the company sold products in the global health market segment. The same favourable growth rate arose when the company sold its popular branded products in the global wellness market segment. Likewise, the Nestle Company created an innovation of the marketing activities within the factory production process in order to maximize net profits. The company’s capacity to effectively respond to any external and internal factors of business threats can be easily rehabilitated. The Nestle Company’s marketing strategy includes the ethical selling of added value Nestle products (Stevens, 2009). Further, Nestle places primary importance on incorporation of business ethics. For example, Nestle was instrumental in the implementation of ethic al standards. During the 1970s, Nestle introduced business ethics in the marketing and distribution of infant formula. The Nestle’s implementation of ethical standards was done during the selling of the infant milk formula in the third world market segments (Boyd, 2012). During the same time period, the Nestle Company spearheaded the boycott of milk food and other related products branded as established violating business ethics policies. During the Nestle boycott of ethically wanting food products, Nestle recommended the filing of charges

Earthquake Paper Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words

Earthquake Paper - Essay Example The earthquake was marked by a thrust-faulting focal mechanism which saw the subduction of the Nazca plate underneath the South American Tectonic Plates (USGS, 2010). For Haiti, the earthquake occurred at the northern boundary of the Caribbean tectonic plate which shifts eastwards per year in relation to the North American Plate (Amos, 2010). The depth of focus for the Japan earthquake was 32 kilometers, for the Haiti earthquake, it was 13 kilometers, and for the Chile earthquake, it was 35 kilometers. The tsunami which followed the Japan earthquake caused a greater damage than the earthquake itself. The earthquake caused a 5-8 meter upthrust in a 180-km seabed offshore from the coast of Tohoku which then caused the tsunami which devastated Japan’s northern islands and the Pacific coastline (CNN Wire Staff, 2011). The tsunami extended across the Pacific with warnings issued to coastal towns. Chile, which was the furthest area from Japan still felt tsunami waves 2 meters high. In the Omoe peninsula, Miyako city, and the Iwate prefecture, tsunami waves were also felt (Yomiuri Shimbun, 2011). The height of the tsunamis hitting Japan ranged from as low as three meters to as high as 13 meters, covering about 560 square kilometers of Japan, and the waves were seen an hour after the earthquake hit first in Sendai airport and in the rest of the northern coast of Japan following (CNN Wire Staff, 2011). A four meter tsunami would also hit the Iwate prefecture and the Wakabayashi Ward in Sendai. A major part of Kuji and Ofunato were destroyed and in Rikuzentakata, tsunami waves were reported at about three stories high (CNN Wire Staff). Damages in the cities of Kamaishi, Miyako, Yamada, Namie, Soma, Minamisoma, Shichigahama, among others were also reported. The most severe impact of the tsunami was felt along the coastline stretching from Erimo to Oarai with bridges washed out and a wide swath of general destruction (CNN

Organizing and Elections in Unions Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1500 words

Organizing and Elections in Unions - Essay Example This study mainly intends to reveal two real life occurrences in which two firms provided real time hurdles to the employees related to their joining unions; however, despite of ULP’s protest against the firms, it proved to be of no use. SOME OF THE INSTANCES WHERE ULP’S CHARGES WERE OF LITTLE OR NO USE The top retail chain in the world i.e. Wal-Mart suffered negativity as the regional National Labour Relations Board (NLRB) directors issued as sum total of thirty-nine complaints against the company during the periods of January 2000 to July 2005. The most disturbing fact was observed to be that out of the thirty nine complaints, thirteen complaints were totally resolved by way of various settlements outside the Court of Justice, two cases are still pending for settlement and four of them were withdrawn. The remaining twenty cases were heard by the US Labour Law. However, while settling thirteen of the complaints, the company complied with all the necessary changes that needed to take place for restraining itself from practicing Unfair Labor Practices but did not hold itself in guilt for restricting its employees from participating in trade unions. In all the cases, the company seemed to hold itself for violating the broad rules and regulations of NLRB. A majority of the cases that were filed against Wal-Mart constituted complaints from its employees. The company was continuously engaged in the violation of labour laws during the period of January 2000 to July 2005. It was also observed that the company had exercised upon many unfair law practices in the organization, violating legal obligations concerning complete rights to its employees such as right to freedom of association which is internationally considered to be allowed to workers1. The reports published in this context further revealed that since the year 2000, the company has been practicing discrimination against unions along with the sympathizers of the unions within its workforce on dif ferent occasions. The company officials were not only charged with the allegation of harassing junior employees on the grounds of race, ethnicity and gender. The company also took many extreme steps where it hired and fired employees in small frequencies without any firm cause which can be justified under the provisions of relevant Court of Law. The top most reason for firing of employees was further observed to be the willingness and efforts made by the employees to join associations or created unions. For instance, it was noted that in April 2000, in one of the stores of the company, which is located in Florida, Wal-Mart unlawfully fired a union supporter named Edward Eagen. The reason for firing him was only because of the fact that he signed a ‘union card’ for supporting unionism within the organization. It has also been noted that the company was engaged in keeping a close look at the employees with the help of surveillance cameras which hindered employee confident iality within the workplace. With reference to these facts, it can be stated that the rights of the employees were exploited at almost all levels by the company. Such interventions practiced by the company as against the rights and interests of employees also affected the company’

Fair park historic site - Essay Example The alteration of the facility from its initial appearance to the present day one was done in an effort to make it attractive during the six months long exposition. These buildings still exist to date, which serves as an art decoration of the complex. During the 1936 exposition, the complex attracted millions of visitors. The complex got its name after the initial owners, Fair Association, who lost the facility through fire and financial loss in 1904 (Walker, 168). After this loss, it was voted that the facility be maintained and protected against the real estate developers, eventually becoming the second public park in Dallas (Collins, 187). Having initially started on an 80-acre piece of land, the complex has been increased in size, due to its relevance to the current 227 acre size. Today, the facility attracts over and above seven million visitors every year. The administration of the park is under Dallas park department, which it obtained in 1988, after the complex was declared a National Historic Landmark in 1986 (Mark, 82). A lot of resources have been used to develop, maintain and renovate the facility since its establishment. However, in the light of its relevance in bringing in millions of visitors every year, the investment is worth it. ... on of the entrance gate to their look as at back 1936, the reconstruction of the monumental sculptures, renovations of the Hall of state and the Aquarium as well as the inclusion of a green space (Walker, 122). There is an additional construction of the Summer Place Park that is to be opened later this year (Collins, 156). This complex has influenced the nature of surrounding estates construction, with most of them being developed to match the aesthetic value of the complex. The buildings in this complex have emerged to be the busiest, with many annual and seasonal performances taking place here. The Fair Park site has become the most popular public spaces in the USA, with millions of visits every year (Walker, 118). The facilities in this complex, for example the Hall of State, were some of the most expensive building of its time in the whole of Texas. Its decor was an art work of international, regional and national artists. This has given it the most of all magnificent looks (Mark , 10). The facilities that the complex is a home to include; the Esplanade, Hall of state. Parry Avenue Entrance, the women’s museum, the D.A.R building, Museum of the American railroad and the Tower building. The annual festivity that takes place in this complex attracts millions of visitors (Walker, 118). These festivities include: The annual state fair of Texas lasting for 24 days, which is the largest state fair in the USA, by annual attendance since 1886 (Collins, 121). The fair hit a record six million plus in 1936, a historic attendance that is unique to this complex only as per those dates. The annual festivity runs from every last Friday of September each year to the third Sunday of October. The other annual festival is the North Irish festival, the largest of all Irish festivals

Others are individuals who are saving for their retirements, children's college funds or other needs. In both cases, the goal is to buy the shares when the stock is low and sell is high. Neil Currie and Svetlana Sukhanova states that "Wal-Mart may follow its past practice of using a joint venture or acquisition to enter the market " (Ermakova, 2008). The depth of time Essay Example for Free

The depth of time Essay We all wonder what life is. After much contemplation, I have found that life just boils down to a moment, more specifically the present moment. The past and the future exist only in our imagination. Real life and the world exist only in the present moment. How do we get a hold of or point at this moment exactly? Time is like a strong wind.
